Abu Dhabi, UAE: 28th December, 2020: The Central Testing Laboratory of Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council launched service of "hormone residue testing in medicines, food and dietary supplements" to support its regulatory partners and the private sector.

Eng. Abdulla Hassan Al Muaini, the Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory said “the Central Testing Laboratory has launched the service of hormone residue testing to cover specific types of food products, medicines and dietary supplements. This service aims to improve the quality of life and safety and happiness of the society in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and continue the innovation approach adopted by the Council, through provision of services that enhance the consumers’ health and safety; as the type and safety of food and medicine play a key and direct role in enhancing the consumer health; adding service of hormone residue testing for food products, medicines and dietary supplements shall contribute to support the partners of the Council including the regulatory and supervisory authorities to ensure the food and medicines safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi markets. 
 “ the preliminary list of hormones to be tested have been selected in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, the Laboratory strategic partner, the list includes testing of hormone residue of “Dexamethasone, Testosterone, Progesterone, Trenbolone Acetate, Melengestrol, Estradiol and Zeranol”, as these hormones are the most used in food products and by athletes; they also cause health problems such as diabetes, obesity, chronic fatigue and loss of appetite, as well as  and depression, and some cases of cancer diseases related to hormones, they are a source of great concern worldwide” Al Muaini added.
Abdullah Al- Muaini confirmed that the new testing service is currently available, and it is provided by using the latest and most advanced laboratory systems in this sector, to provide accurate, quick and efficient results.

Dr. Mariam Hareb Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Food Control at Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority said “we appreciate the efforts of Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council to meet the needs of the government departments for the services of the laboratory testing including provision of the hormone residue testing, which comes in line with the strategic partnership and the continuous coordination between Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority and Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council. The hormone residue testing in the food products is one of the important tests at the Authority, and developing this kind of tests enhance the control operations, and contribute to achieve the Authority’s goal to develop a sustainable sector in the field of agriculture and food safety to achieve more prosperity and welfare for the society. 
The Central Laboratory provides its services to the regulatory and supervisory authorities and the industrial sector in many fields including the safety and quality tests of the food products, water, beverages, environmental tests as well as the cosmetics, medicines, medical equipment and construction materials. The Central Laboratory serve its partners in the industrial sector through scientific research, training and issuance of conformity certificates.
