Abu Dhabi, December 28, 2023: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC), in collaboration with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), conducted a comprehensive study to assess the impact of implementing the Public Space Design Guide on economic, social, health, environmental, and security aspects.

The field study results confirm the positive impact of applying the standards in the guide, which has helped streamline processes and procedures related to infrastructure projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The study highlighted the Public Space Design Guide, which establishes planning and design principles to create vibrant public spaces that encourage outdoor activities.
The guide provides guidelines for planners, designers, and operators to develop public open spaces and streets that align with its core objectives: creating comfortable, safe, and attractive public spaces for everyone, and offering a variety of spaces to accommodate diverse uses.

The guide aims to promote sustainability and enhance health benefits by improving the well-being of public spaces.

The study focused on an existing project in Khalifa City as a practical example, assessing residents’ access to various parks and analyzing the design of park and street spaces. The results showed significant improvements in residents’ experiences and accessibility to green spaces and public facilities.

The ADQCC emphasized its commitment to continuously updating guides and standards aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Emiratis and residents in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in alignment with the requirements of strategic partners. It expressed hope that planners, designers, and operators will use the guide to develop sustainable, healthy public spaces that promote social cohesion and ensure universal access for all segments of society.
