Abu Dhabi, October 28, 2024: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC) approved updates to the Abu Dhabi Technical Standards for Security Checkpoints during the third-quarter meeting of the Abu Dhabi Standards Technical Committee.

The meeting, chaired by H.E. Engineer Badr Khamis Al Shemaili, Executive Director of the Conformity and Standards Sector and Chairman of the Technical Committee, included 37 members representing 25 government entities.  

The update was initiated at the request of the Abu Dhabi Police General Command, which led the technical working group comprising representatives from key organizations in the Emirate, including the Armed Forces General Command, Presidential Guard Command, Abu Dhabi Customs, Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, Department of Health, Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and private sector partners.  

H.E. Engineer Badr Khamis Al Shemaili emphasized that the modernization of these standards is a key step in enhancing security and safety within the Emirate. “The updated standards will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of security checkpoints, ensuring the safety of both users and operators, and contributing to the protection of vital facilities and major events in Abu Dhabi,” he said.  
Major Mohammed Al Hamed, Director of the Abu Dhabi Technical Standards Project at Abu Dhabi Police, noted that the updated standards are innovative and the first of their kind in the region. He highlighted that these standards reflect the Abu Dhabi Police's commitment to adopting the latest technologies and innovations in security. “The new standards integrate advanced global technologies with flexible security protocols to enhance safety and stability in the Emirate,” he added.

He further explained that the updated standards enhance occupational safety, leverage artificial intelligence, and are designed to adapt to technological advancements, aligning with the latest global trends in facility and event security. These measures make the standards a global model, covering various aspects of checkpoint security, including advanced infrastructure, specialized devices, and training personnel with cutting-edge expertise.  

The updates aim to support strategic objectives related to security and safety as outlined in government directives, helping to mitigate risks and prevent security threats at key facilities and events. They also promote coordination among relevant authorities, fostering confidence between security agencies and those operating in the field.  
The new document outlines the security requirements and technical needs for checkpoints, ensuring the safety of high-profile events and vital facilities, including ministries, hotels, and other establishments requiring security inspection systems.
