Abu Dhabi, January 23, 2023: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) organized a workshop on the Abu Dhabi technical standards for the manufacture of organic fertilizers from green waste, subsequently approving the norms by the ADQCC Standing Technical Committees for Abu Dhabi Technical Standards.
The norms were formulated at a workshop held in cooperation with the Industrial Development Bureau and the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company, “Tadweer”
The technical standards – the Abu Dhabi Specification for the Manufacture of Organic Compost from Green Waste - was developed based on a request from the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company “Tadweer”, and in cooperation with the Industrial Development Bureau of the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi.
The workshop in Abu Dhabi which was attended by a number of organic fertilizer manufacturers was conducted to explain the mechanisms of applying the technical standards, which form a comprehensive reference for them in producing fertilizer from green waste, and was prepared in line with the best practices in production processes.
His Excellency Badr Khamis Al-Shumaili, Executive Director of the Council’s Compliance and Standards Services Sector, stressed the importance of the technical standards in standardizing the manufacturing processes from the stage of receiving the green waste to the production of the organic fertilizer.
He said that the application of these standards will increase expertise, unify concepts, and will be a specific and clear reference for the manufacture of organic fertilizer from green waste, in addition to saving cost on organic agricultural fertilizers that meet the needs of agricultural lands.
Al-Shumaili added that the standards will also contribute to improving the productivity of agricultural land that depends on fertilizers, while reducing environmental pollution from the excessive use of mineral agricultural fertilizers, and in determining the waste collection systems in Abu Dhabi.
Representatives from a number of entities participated in the preparation of the technical standards, including the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Compost Plant, the UAE University, Khalifa University, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, and the Masdar Institute.
