Abu Dhabi: July 07, 2022 : The Permanent Technical Committee for Abu Dhabi Technical Standards of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) approved an update of the Abu Dhabi Guidelines for Road Engineering Design in line with global best practices and to ensure a unified approach across design studies, design reports and road plans in Abu Dhabi.

The update also covered how to design cities and regions and rebuilding secondary roads and urban streets in the emirate. The updated guideline has been made possible in cooperation with the Department of Municipalities and Transport,  and  a committee comprising representatives from the municipalities of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions, in addition to the Integrated Transport Center Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada), Parsons Corporation, Binyah and Al Dar.  
Saif Al Bakri, Director of Specifications Services Department of QCC said the guideline is aimed at ensuring a safe and unified operational and structural capacity throughout the road network and improve the quality of public roads in line with international best practices. The guideline will help road designing with a unified approach and obtain international standards while reducing the cost of operations and maintenance.

Kholoud Al Marzouqi, Director of the Infrastructure Organization and Operation Department - Planning and Infrastructure Sector at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said: "The sustainability of the road network in the emirate is of paramount importance to ensure and maintain steady growth in Abu Dhabi. Therefore, the department and entities that are affiliated to it  work in cooperation with QCC and all relevant parties to standardize norms, procedures and designs in order to enhance Abu Dhabi’s position globally as one of the best destinations for life, work and visit.”
