ABU DHABI, 7 July 2021: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) today said it has approved the Abu Dhabi Lighting Guide, Geotechnical Engineering Guide – both prepared by the Abu Dhabi Municipality - and a technical practice guide for workers associated with contractors of health facilities, prepared by the Department of Health.
QCC said these technical guides were adopted at an online digital review meeting of the Abu Dhabi Technical Standards Standing Committee for 2021 second quarter.
The meeting was chaired by Eng. Abdullah Hassan Al-Muaini, Acting Executive Director of the Conformity and Standardization Sector, and Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of members, representatives from concerned authorities, public and private sectors and academic sector. The committee has 36 members representing 22 entities.
The updated Abu Dhabi Lighting Guide, prepared by a working group of experts and industry stakeholders will support implementing the latest globally benchmarked best practices in the lighting sector. QCC said that the updated version will lead to providing appropriate public lighting to ensure the safety of citizens and residents. The guide will also support installation of energy efficient lighting to save resources leading to lower carbon emissions as well as operations and maintenance costs.
Similarly, the updated Geotechnical Engineering Guide covers best practices and quality of the public road network for the benefit of road users. In the latest version, procedures for reviewing and approving designs have been updated in line with international best practices contributing to enhanced safety and security for road users in Abu Dhabi. The guide also aims to reduce accidents and eliminate the risks of settlement and collapse of foundations.
The technical practice guide for workers with contractors with health facilities has been prepared to check the spread of infections and protect workers in heath facilities. The guide also lists risks related to the outbreak of infectious diseases and measures that must be taken to limit the spread of infection. Apart from raising efficiency, the guide is expected to contribute to improved work environment and adherence to local and federal legislation on infection control and prevention.
The QCC meeting also reviewed key developments in the current projects which are being implemented and expected to be made operational in 2021.
