Abu Dhabi, August 10, 2021, In a joint campaign, the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) conducted an inspection on building materials business outlets in Abu Dhabi to ensure that traders follow and comply with mandated norms.
Specifically, the inspection focused on compliance of a circular issued by QCC which prohibited traders from display and sale of cement products that do not conform to local and federal stipulations. The circular had also given a six-month time frame for the outlets to settle and rectify in case of such stocks, which ended last March.
The campaign spanned three regions of the emirate– Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra. In total 34 field visits were carried out and three violations were found. Non-compliance notices were issued to those outlets which violated, while the rest followed conformity norms with commitment. The field inspection teams of the Council and the DED inspected over 1,261 outlets to ensure compliance stressing the importance of accountability and to highlight that violations will attract penalties.
Munif Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Industrial Development Office of DED, said: “The joint inspection campaign of QCC and Industrial Development Office, aimed at enhancing the quality of local products, including cement sold in Abu Dhabi, and to ensure their competitiveness in local and global markets, in line with technical standards and programmes.”
Rabea Salmeen Al-Hajri, Acting Executive Director of the Commercial Affairs Sector, QCC, said: “The field inspection campaign on building material outlets was to ensure compliance to specifications and standards in cement products. It was also an opportunity to check if outlets have adhered to the directives in the circular to remove non-conforming cement products from their stocks within the deadline of March-end last. The circular had specifically directed not to trade products that do not conform to standards, and not to sell such products without getting a certificate of conformity from authorities.”
Engineer Badr Khamis Al Shamili, Director of Conformity Assessment Services at QCC, said: "We monitor the markets in cooperation with DED and other relevant authorities by rolling out regular field inspections to ensure the quality of cement products.”
