Abu Dhabi, May 03, 2023: The Emirates Metrology Institute of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) said it issued 113 calibration certificates for legal measurement instruments, carried out 16 inter-comparisons and fitness checks and provided 7 advisory services, as well as issued 7 specialized advisory reports in the first quarter of 2023.

His Excellency Saeed Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Emirates Metrology Institute said the Institute’s activities follows from its commitment to support key economic sectors of Abu Dhabi and the UAE in general. These activities were also undertaken as the Institute is the national reference entity for metrology in the UAE. The Institute also contributes at the regional level through the Gulf Metrology Assembly (GULFMET), as well as through its memberships in the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM MRA), the Asia-Pacific Metrology Program (APMP), the Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS), and the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO), he said.

On the sidelines of its participation at IDEX and NAVDEX 2023 exhibition last February, the Institute signed an agreement with Caracal International LLC to enhance cooperation across scientific and technical metrology for developing capabilities in the defense industries.

Another cooperation agreement was signed with the Khalifa University of Science and Technology for enhanced innovation in the development of the science of measurement, scientific research and technological development, to contribute to the advancement of advanced technologies in the Abu Dhabi local economy and the UAE.

The Institute participated in the Joint International Committee of Regional Metrology Bodies (JCRBs) organized by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the Regional Metrological Bodies (RMOs) in March this year.

Other participations included the Advisory Committee for Electricity and Magnets meetings of BIPM in Paris to discuss global electrical metrology systems, wherein the Institute presented a report on the measurement, calibration and inter-comparison capabilities of GULFMET.

As part of supporting the Council-accredited laboratories, the Institute organized a workshop at its headquarters in cooperation with the German company, WIKA, specialized in calibration technology. The workshop had a participation from 23 representatives of government and semi-government sectors, companies and institutions and accredited laboratories.

During the workshop, a presentation was also made to introduce the Institute’s services in  benchmarking, calibration of measurement tools, technical consultancy and training, while Wika briefed on its expertise in calibration and standardization, and introduced the latest devices and technologies it  deploy in these sectors.

A  GULFMET delegation visited the Institute in the first quarter of the year to enhance cooperation to facilitate the procedures required for the member states of the Assembly to meet the technical standards, and this was done by organizing programs in inter-comparisons and reviewing the application and evaluation of quality management systems for national institutes.

The delegation was also briefed on the services provided by the Institute as the National Institute of Measurement in the UAE, including calibration services, training, counseling, merit examination, or inter-laboratory comparisons, studies and scientific research services.
