Abu Dhabi January 17, 2024 The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council adopted the Abu Dhabi vocational requirements for workers in engineering professions.

This adoption took place during the 2023 meeting of the Permanent Technical Committee for Abu Dhabi Technical Standards. The meeting, chaired by H.E. Engineer Bader Khamis Alshemaili, Executive Director of the Conformity and Standards Services Sector and Chairman of the Permanent Technical Committee, included 37 members representing 25 government entities.

A working group, consisting of experts from relevant government agencies, representatives from the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, and other private sector companies, developed the vocational requirements for workers in engineering professions in response to a request submitted by the Municipalities and Transport Department.
The vocational requirements, developed in accordance with best practices and international standards, aim to create examinations for engineers in specific specialties. This initiative seeks to qualify engineering capacities, ensuring the continuous development of engineering competencies in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The ultimate goals include elevating the level of construction quality in the Emirate and enhancing global competitiveness in the engineering labor market for companies operating in engineering fields.

The implementation of these new requirements will positively impact construction projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It will strengthen quality and safety standards in engineering works, contributing to the elevation of skills and competencies among engineers and enhancing confidence in the engineering services provided in the Emirate. These technical documents are essential tools to enhance the quality of construction work in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, reflecting the council's commitment to realizing its vision of enabling Abu Dhabi to achieve global excellence.
Government and private entities collaborate closely with the council to develop technical, professional, and craft standards across various sectors, ensuring quality and conformity in all activities and industries.

H.E. Engineer Bader Khamis Alshemaili stated, 'The outcomes of the Permanent Technical Committee's efforts align with the council's vision of enhancing the quality infrastructure and facilitating the global prominence of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The council collaborates with partners from both the government and private sectors to develop technical and professional standards across various sectors, striving to ensure quality and conformity in all activities and industries.

In his role, Engineer Yousif Al Fahim, Director of the Classification and Professions Registration Department at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, emphasized that the adoption of Abu Dhabi's vocational requirements for engineering professionals is part of the Department's broader efforts to reinforce standards and practices in the construction field. These efforts are aligned with sustainability values and adhere to security and safety standards across all urban development projects. This project is in line with the Department's commitment to keeping pace with the rapid changes and developments witnessed in the urban development sector of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
