ABU DHABI, October 02,2021: As a representative member of the Gulf Metrology Association, the Emirates Metrology Institute of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) attended the virtual working meetings of the Joint Committee of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), which oversees and monitors metrology activities globally.
These meetings are held twice a year in March and September and the Institute’s global recognition and reputation enabled it to represent the Gulf consortium, said His Excellency Saeed Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Emirates Metrology Institute.
This is especially true in the case of representing the Quality Committee of the Gulf Metrology Association in the Joint International Committee of Regional Metrology Bodies, which is one of the most prominent committees of BIPM.
The Gulf Metrology Association was represented by five members, including Mrs. Asmaa Mohammed Al Hosani and in the course of two days, the members discussed the mechanisms and operations of BIPM’s inter-comparison programs and other regional organizations in raising the capabilities of member states across the world.
Ms. Asmaa Al-Hosani said procedures for a quality management system were also discussed, particularly in the context of the repercussions of COVID-19 and how various metrological associations conducted assessments virtually as well as in hybrid and physical formats. The importance of digital transformation in advancing metrology was also discussed.
In addition, discussions on calibration procedures for measurements, analysis and issuance of reports through digital channels based on processes where measurement information is pre-fed into machines as per the most accurate standards to ensure the highest quality of measurements were also discussed.
Al Muhairi said that the meeting was one of the largest gathering of global metrology experts to develop strategies for the enhancement of metrology and specialized international research on important economic and manufacturing sectors, such as industry, production, chemical and electrical fields. From Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa, as well as from the Gulf, the meetings had a participation of 40 officials and experts from around the world.
The Emirates Metrology Institute also represents the UAE in various metrology forums and gatherings, as the country had officially joined the International Meter Convention in 2016. The UAE is also considered to be one of the first countries to join as a full member of BIPM in line with the objectives of the National Agenda 2021 and the goals of the Abu Dhabi Plan in building a competitive and sustainable globally economy national economy.
