Abu Dhabi, September 12, 2024: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC) has announced the activation of comprehensive testing for artificial turf and rubber flooring through the Material Science Laboratories of the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL) sector. This initiative aims to verify the safety and quality of artificial turf products and ensure their compliance with the standards and requirements of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The tests conducted by the laboratory include formaldehyde analysis, pH analysis, phthalate and phenol content, organic tin compounds, elemental migration analysis, and polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) content.

Artificial turf and rubber flooring products undergo in-depth testing to ensure their safety and suitability for use. These tests include rigorous analyses for a wide range of harmful chemicals, such as phthalates, phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), formaldehydes, and tin compounds.

These tests assess product safety by ensuring that the materials used in the manufacture of these products do not pose a risk to public health, particularly with long-term exposure. They also verify compliance with global standards and local regulations, which set maximum allowable limits for harmful chemicals and industrially banned substances.
The importance of these tests lies in the fact that some chemicals are associated with numerous health and environmental issues if used in quantities exceeding the permitted levels. For example, phthalates are considered chemicals of significant public health concern.

Through its testing and conformity assessment services, the ADQCC aims to enhance testing capabilities to subject products containing phthalates to stringent tests, ensuring that their levels do not exceed permissible limits.

Noting the importance of launching and activating testing services for artificial turf and rubber flooring, H.E. Eng. Abdulla Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory Sector, emphasized the sector's commitment to ensuring the safety of products in the Emirate.

Mr. Al Muaini said: “At the Central Testing Laboratory, we are committed to providing testing and conformity assessment services that protect the health and safety of all members of society. To this end, we have equipped our laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment to test these products with high precision and ensure they are free from any harmful substances that could affect health and the environment.”

“These tests are a crucial step toward creating a healthy and safe environment in our Emirate, as they help protect children, athletes, and the elderly from the dangers of harmful chemicals. They also enhance consumer confidence in the products available on the market and support the industrial sector by ensuring the quality of its products,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that the Central Testing Laboratory relies on the latest technologies and devices, such as liquid and gas chromatography, inductively coupled plasma, and others, which can detect even the lowest concentrations of harmful chemicals with high accuracy.
